MYSTIC SEAPORT: THE MUSEUM OF AMERICA & THE SEA

Corsets to Coopers: Primary Sources from 19th-Century Whaling

This 45 minute virtual program will be led by a Museum Teacher, using actual artifacts from our collection, reproductions, historic images, and video footage projected on our green screen. In this particular interactive program, participants will learn about the whale ship CHARLES W. MORGAN as the centerpiece of our Museum collections. The experience will be focused on these key questions: What is Mystic Seaport and what do we have in our collection? Why do we collect these things? What was the Charles W. Morgan? What was whaling? Why did people whale? What can we learn from the whaling objects that people left behind?

Night Sky Update with the Treworgy Planetarium at Mystic Seaport Museum

Join us to explore the night sky! Using a computer program called Stelarium, we will share information about the moon, visible planets, and the constellations that are visible this time of year - where they are and how to find them in the sky. This program is the virtual version of the Planetarium show at Mystic Seaport Museum in Mystic, CT. We explore the current night sky from your location, so that it is the familiar sky that participants would see in their own backyards. By the end of our program, participants will have everything they need for some backyard stargazing!
